The surroundings

The complex is situated on the edge of the romantic fishing village of Agios Ilias which, like the other villages round about, still retains its original Greek character. The green of the olive groves, maize fields, vegetable gardens and vineyards combines with the deep blue of the sea and sky to form a gentle, charming landscape. Numerous picturesque bays with fine sandy beaches invite you to bathe. The beaches in the area are open to all and there are drinks and refreshments on offer almost everywhere. There are adequate shopping facilities in the next village (c. 3 kms away), as well as restaurants with regional cuisine. Pyrgos 13 kms away is the capital of the Ilias (Ilis) prefecture and also offers many good shopping facilities. Of no less significance are the cultural attractions of the region. Ancient Olympia is about 35 kms from Agios Ilias and can be reached from Pyrgos by bus or train. In the summertime music festivals and other events take place, sometimes in the old theatres. Day tours take you round the South-West Peleponnese and include the ruined Byzantine town of Mistra and the Venetian and Byzantine fortress with its strangely shaped rock massif of Monemvassia. About 60 kms away and 1130 metres high is the Epikourios Apollo temple dating from 420 BC, in Bassä (or Vasses, opinions on the spelling differ). In addition there are easily reached ferry connections to the Ionian islands.

Our information material for our guests describes all other sightseeing attractions in detail, as well as excursions in the Erymanthos mountain range.
